Traditional & Quality Rover Scouting

I am from Australia and was bought up on the traditional scouting method, scouts, seniors and rovers. I managed to complete the Queens and BP award.

I was a leader with the only Australian Chinese Sea Scout Group. Yes we actually did sailing and canoeing. What was difficult during that era for me was the intolerance shown to these scouts by the non-Chinese scouts even though the Scout Law required tolerance of those who are different.

We were invited to travel to the PRC officially by the national government, where the scouts were allowed to wear their uniform in China. This was in 1999.

I have had a break of several years from active scouting, but am now keen to become active.

Occupationally I am a social worker and mainly work in disabilities and ethnicity in policy development.

I hope China stays out of WOSM as it will attempt to impose standards on China Scouting which are alien to Chinese ways.

Very True, they no idea what true scouting means, except to demonise those who do not follow their path. There are many paths which scouting follows, not just the official WOSM party line.

Incidentally, two did get the highest venturer award (Queens Scout) against considerable opposition and racist attitudes from Scouts Australia.
