Where to begin- well community groups for one; churches, clubs, and schools. Why- these organizations are already formed and have children or young people in them. They usually are community and family based and so is RESA. Do you have to be a member ?- of course not but it helps. So I kind of choked on the costs of real stetsons and antique hats and what I felt were incorrect hats (military/police)- of which there are many. Using my scout intuition and what I could find around the house I decided to convert a cowboy hat. I hadnt wore the hat in years and when it laid flat the brim was round. I am from Australia and was bought up on the traditional scouting method, scouts, seniors and rovers. I managed to complete the Queens and BP award.
I was a leader with the only Australian Chinese Sea Scout Group. Yes we actually did sailing and canoeing. What was difficult during that era for me was the intolerance shown to these scouts by the non-Chinese scouts even though the Scout Law required tolerance of those who are different.
