Thanks for adding me to the group.

I am currently a Group Scoutmaster here in Moncton, NB, CANADA and have become Rover Knight in the last year. My Scouting experience stretches over 35 years and continues to bloom...

Thank you Sir Ray for accepting me in this group. It's an honor for me.

I will do my best to share the scouting activities from Mauritius on this group.

Scouting yours,

Sebastien

I'm working for the most part these days, it seems to consume all of my time, however I enjoy it so it's not an issue.

Thanks Ray,

I have a small Wolf Cub section here in the US, and I was wondering if you could point me in the direction of any suppliers of generic traditional scouting insignia/uniforms, etc.  The QM links on the page don't seem to work.

Thanks,

Stuart

Many thanks for your kind words.

In terms of my ideas about 'marketing' the organization, I have nothing really deep and profound to offer. However, I have noticed that with some adventure-oriented activities or extreme sports, many people strap on a 'go-pro' video cam and 'do their thing'. This makes the viewer co-experience the activity with the person actually doing it. It communicates in a way that writing about it or taking stills of it never could, the thrill of the activity. My idea is much like your picture gallery, except it would consist of short(?) videos, instead of solely posting still photographs.

I'm wondering if this theory can be applied to something like scouting. What if we captured the most exciting and interesting moments of our activities with a go-pro and posted that? Other kids might see the canoeing, hiking, campfires, shooting the rapids, and all the other things we get up to in a year and say, "Hey! I want to do that too!" The fact we are wearing uniforms and neckerchiefs is merely our team colours, so to speak. Professional sports teams don't play their sport wearing jeans or track pants; neither do we.

It might also show rather than tell what the traditional scouting movement is all about. We live in an image-based society, so I think it will become popular.

It's just an idea. As soon as I get one of those little devices, I'll try it out.

If I have any other epiphanies, I'll post them as well. Till then, Service!

Thank you very much! Most of my scouting experience is from my youth and although I have largely lived according to the tenets of the movement, I have not been officially involved. Now, as my son is approaching scouting age, I want to give to him and the community what I so happily received when I was young. As preparation for starting a traditional scout group in our community, I am becoming a Senior Rover Knight myself. (That journey will start shortly.) As a result, I'm hoping to learn as much as I possibly can, although I realize I will be unable to make up for all the time lost in a short time. Thanks again! Service! Duncan James

When I attempted to enter this group using my old e-mail, I received a message from yahoo stating that it was inactive on this group.  To correct that curious little problem, I rejoined using this address.

Hi Ray, no problem, I can save and send on various versions of windows let me know your version.

My op is this thursday so might not be mobile for two weeks.

I have Skype up and running if yours is. Not as good as face to face cream buns but might be usefull.

Skype also has instant messaging (slight delay to America but might be quicker in the UK). as I  will be stuck indoors for two weeks I will need something to do other than tele or books.
